Clear Lens Extraction (CLE)
For highly nearsighted or highly farsighted patients who would otherwise be outside the range of cornea-based refractive surgery, CLE is offered. CLE involves the removal and replacement of the lens of the eye and is very similar to cataract extraction with lens replacement.
Step 1
Numbing eye drops are placed in each eye, and the eye lids are painlessly positioned away from the eye surface so as to keep them from interfering with the procedure.
Step 2
The natural lens of the eye is removed.
Step 3
The lens is replaced with a new, plastic Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) that will correct most, if not all, of the nearsightedness and/or farsightedness the patient has been experiencing. In essence, this new lens will act as a permanent contact lens for the patient, offering permanent improved vision for the patient.
Notes:
Due to the fact that the use of a laser is not involved in this procedure, Clear Lens Extraction procedures are performed at another surgical facility, instead of on-site at Clarity Laser Vision Center.
