Bladeless Lasik (IntraLase)
Bladeless LASIK is performed in the same four steps as traditional LASIK, but with different instrumentation in Step 2.
Step 1
Numbing eye drops are placed in each eye, and the eye lids are painlessly positioned away from the eye surface so as to keep them from interfering with the procedure.
Step 2
In Bladeless LASIK, IntraLASIK, or iLASIK, as it is also known, the IntraLase laser passes tiny, ultra-fast pulses of light harmlessly through the outer layer of your eye, perfectly cutting a consistently thin corneal flap.
Step 3
A cool ultraviolet light (the VISX Star S4) is used to precisely reshape the deeper cornea. This step is guided by a computer programmed by the doctor using each person’s individualized, corrective data.
Step 4
The corneal flap is replaced – without stitches – restoring the surface of the eye to its natural and pre-procedural state.
